Heavy snowfall in Lithuania and elsewhere in Europe on Friday may disrupt flight schedules and cause delays, Lithuanian Airports warned.
“Unfavourable weather conditions have recently been observed not only in Lithuania but also in other parts of Europe, meaning that the impact on flight schedules can at times be felt across the entire flight chain,” Lithuanian Airports spokeswoman Rasa Petrauskaitė told BNS.
She said airports in Lithuania were operating normally and no major disruptions linked to weather conditions had been recorded.
Flight information at Vilnius Airport showed aircraft were landing, although some flights were delayed by up to an hour.
Airport teams are operating at increased capacity to ensure safe operations and minimise disruptions, Petrauskaitė said.
The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service is reporting snowfall and drifting snow in the eastern and southern parts of the country since early Friday, with temperatures ranging from -6 C to -11 C. Snowfall is forecast to continue in parts of Lithuania until Sunday.
