The wage gap between Lithuania’s Vilnius region and the rest of the country narrowed by 29 euros in the third quarter but still stands at 414 euros a month, the State Data Agency reported.
The average monthly gross wage in the capital region reached 2,657.2 euros, up 0.9% from the previous quarter. In Central and Western Lithuania, the average gross wage rose 2.5% to 2,243.5 euros. Net wages increased 0.9% to 1,615.1 euros in the capital region and 2% to 1,388.6 euros in the Central and Western region.
Gross wages grew the most in Utena and Marijampolė counties, rising 3.1% in the quarter. Growth was weakest in Vilnius County at 0.9%, though workers there earned the highest average wage at 2,657.2 euros. Employees in Marijampolė County earned the lowest average gross wage at 1,997.7 euros.
Average wages increased in every municipality, ranging from 0.1% in Kėdainiai District to 6.9% in Rietavas. The highest municipal wage – 2,737.8 euros before taxes – was recorded in Vilnius city, while Zarasai District posted the lowest at 1,777.9 euros.
Year over year, average wages rose in all municipalities, from 3% in Pagėgiai to 16.3% in Visaginas.
The agency said several factors contributed to the wage increases, including a higher minimum wage, increased base salary coefficients for public-sector employees, changes to the calculation of the non-taxable income threshold, rising work volumes, seasonal fluctuations and other factors.
