The basketball club Žalgiris Kaunas and head coach Andrea Trinchieri have mutually agreed to part ways after 18 months together, the club announced Monday on its official website.
Trinchieri joined the Lithuanian basketball champions at the end of 2023, taking over from Kazys Maksvytis.
In his first season, Trinchieri led Žalgiris to a King Mindaugas Cup title, but the team fell to Rytas Vilnius in the Betsafe-LKL finals. In EuroLeague play, Žalgiris posted a 9–8 record under Trinchieri and finished 14th in the 2023–24 standings.
This past EuroLeague season, Žalgiris improved to 15 wins and 19 losses, placing 13th. The team repeated as King Mindaugas Cup champions and reclaimed the Betsafe-LKL title after a one-year absence.
Assistant coach Massimiliano Menetti will also depart alongside Trinchieri.
Žalgiris thanked the coaching staff for their contributions and wished them success in the next stages of their careers.
