Cool heads, not loud statements, are needed to resolve the crisis in bilateral relations between the United States and Ukraine, Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas says.
“I suggest not to declare war on the US for the time being as the internet has already gone on some strange crusade and is calling for protests,” the prime minister told reporters on Saturday. “Yes, the situation is not simple. We see a crisis in the US-Ukraine bilateral relations and any resolution of that crisis needs cool heads and wisdom rather than very loud and sharp statements.”
The prime minister made the remarks after an angry exchange between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Friday.
According to Paluckas, the Baltic states “know how to communicate with the US and will help as much as they can to resolve this unpleasant situation”.
“This is not the first call for Europe and certain conclusions should be drawn. First of all, finding sources of defence funding as defence is the key deterrent. The second thing is that our relations with our transatlantic partners will obviously require more effort and a focused common view,” Paluckas said.
