The 25th Vilnius Book Fair kicks off on Thursday at the Vilnius Exhibition and Congress Centre Litexpo and will last four days.
According to the organisers, over 25 years, the fair has not only grown into the most important literary festival for Lithuanian readers but has also become a real cultural centre, attracting tens of thousands of book lovers each year.
This year, the Book Fair will greet readers with the slogan “Kukutis goes to the fair”. The organisers say that Kukutis, created by the poet Marcelijus Martinaitis, is considered one of the most popular and well-known characters in contemporary Lithuanian poetry, and embodies the diversity of people and the inner quest for freedom.
World-renowned authors, such as Nobel Prize winner, Belarusian writer and journalist Svetlana Alexievich, Pulitzer Prize winner, journalist and historian Anne Applebaum, member of the Ukrainian Writers’ Union Tania Pjankova, as well as well-known Lithuanian authors, will attend the fair.
Laima Lavaste’s book President Gitanas Nausėda: Up Close will also be presented at the fair.

The Music Hall, which has been an integral part of the Vilnius Book Fair since 2015, will celebrate its tenth anniversary.
According to the organisers, it is also the largest music fair in the country, bringing together the country’s best-known performers, music creators, and music lovers.
A free bus will take Vilnius residents and guests from Cathedral Square to Litexpo on all four days of the Book Fair.
In 1999, the Baltic Book Fair was organised at the Litexpo Palace and travelled through the Baltic countries every year. According to the organisers, the fair was very popular in the Lithuanian capital, so in 2000 a separate Vilnius Book Fair was launched.
