Lithuania has sent short-range man-portable air defence systems with missiles to Ukraine, the Defence Ministry said on Thursday.

The systems, intended for Ukraine’s armed forces, were delivered to the country at the end of last week, the ministry said in a press release.

According to the ministry, this year’s military assistance to Ukraine will focus on air defence, ammunition, drones and drone jamming equipment, with the aid also contributing to the development of Lithuania’s defence industry.

Lithuania also plans to support Ukraine’s defence industry by funding domestic weapon production.

The ministry noted that Lithuania will continue to contribute to the demining coalition, which it co-leads with Iceland, and other capability coalitions.

Lithuania will also allocate military aid through international funds and joint initiatives and will continue training Ukrainian military personnel and rehabilitating wounded soldiers.

Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, Lithuania has provided over 767 million euros in military aid to Ukraine.

Lithuania’s total assistance to Ukraine has reached over a billion euros to date, according to the Defence Ministry.
