Latvian airline airBaltic has cancelled six summer season flights from Lithuania due to engine maintenance tender problems.
From the end of March to the end of October, the airline will cancel flights from Vilnius to Dubrovnik (Croatia), Ibiza and Valencia (Spain), Rhodes (Greece), Chisinau (Moldova), and Tel Aviv (Israel), the company told BNS, adding that it will still fly to 21 destinations from Vilnius this year.
The cancellations are a result of unexpected delays to engine maintenance by its supplier Pratt & Whitney, airBaltic said. The engine manufacturer’s delays have impacted the operational capabilities of airBaltic’s Airbus A220-300 fleet, forcing the airline to adjust its summer schedule, the company added.
As a result, the airline will cancel 19 flights and reduce frequencies on 21 other routes across its bases. In total, 4,670 flights will be cancelled, affecting an estimated 67,160 passengers.
