Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda on Wednesday appointed the justice and environment ministers, thus completing the prolonged formation of Social Democrat Gintautas Paluckas’ government.

Lawyer Rimantas Mockus will serve as the new justice minister, and the Environment Ministry will be led by Povilas Poderskis, a former administration director at Vilnius City Municipality.

The other 12 ministers were appointed by the president last week. He then rejected the candidates for justice and environment ministers, saying that the nominees were unable to outline priorities for Lithuania’s 2027 EU presidency.

The new cabinet will be sworn in on Thursday once the new government programme is approved by the parliament.

The Foreign Ministry will be led by Kęstutis Budrys, who served as the president’s chief national security adviser until now. Dovilė Šakalienė will be defence minister in the new government, and Vladislav Kondratovič will serve as interior minister. The Transport and Communications Ministry will be headed by Eugenijus Sabutis, and Inga Ruginienė will serve as social security and labour minister.

Rimantas Šadžius will serve as finance minister, Marija Jakubauskienė as health minister, and Šarūnas Birutis as culture minister.

Lukas Savickas will become the economy minister, Žygimantas Vaičiūnas will head the Energy Ministry, and Ignas Hofmanas will lead the Agriculture Ministry.
