Damaged Lithuania-Sweden telecoms cable repaired – Telia

BNS 2024.11.28 17:36

The communications cable running between Lithuania and Sweden in the Baltic Sea, which was damaged almost two weeks ago, has been repaired, Telia Lietuva, a Lithuanian arm of the Swedish telecoms company, has announced.

“Telia’s Baltic Sea traffic was restored on Thursday following the disruption of Lithuania’s international link with Sweden for almost two weeks,” Telia Lietuva said on Thursday.

According to the company, the Lithuanian population did not experience any connectivity disruptions as a result of the incident.

On November 17, one of the three Baltic Sea communications cables connecting Sweden and Lithuania was damaged. On the same day, a cable linking Helsinki and the German port of Rostock was also severed.

Investigators believe that the two Baltic Sea cables were damaged by a Chinese-flagged ship which departed from the Russian port of Ust-Luga.
