Lithuania is conducting tests of its public alert and information system on Wednesday.
Alert sirens sounded just before noon and people received alert messages to their mobile phones.
During the test, sirens blared for three minutes, from 11:52 to 11:55, followed by information and recommendations broadcasts on LRT and local radio stations.
The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) said that around 300,000 residents who were previously outside the siren range should hear the alert signal during the test.
In total, 1,143 alert sirens operate across the country, reaching about 1.6 million people, or 54 percent of the population.
The authorities plan a major upgrade of the public alert system by 2029, with 275 new sirens to be installed and at least 600 existing ones to be connected to a centralised control system.
