Ten Lithuanian police officers have been disciplined over expressing “pro-Russian attitudes” since Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, while two firefighters were fired for posting pro-Russian comments on social media, 15min.lt reported on Tuesday.

The Police Department has told 15min.lt that it has conducted nine “preventive interviews” with employees suspected of harbouring “pro-Russian views” over the last couple of years and handed them warnings.

According to the police, one officer was denied permission to work and access classified information because of it.

Meanwhile, the Fire and Rescue Department has said it recorded three similar cases in which its officers expressed sympathies for Russia on social media.

According to the Department, one officer was fired for expressing pro-Russian sympathies on Facebook.

Another officer “was dismissed for using symbols linked to the Soviet Union’s Victory Day in World War Two on Facebook,” the Fire and Rescue Department said, adding the officer was found to have brought “disrepute to the officer’s name”.

One firefighter is under a pre-trial investigation after he denied that Russia attacked Ukraine on TikTok.

The State Border Guard Service said it did not identify any pro-Russian sympathies among its officers.
