September 22 marks the autumnal equinox and the start of astronomical autumn. On this occasion, Vilnius residents and visitors gathered on the Stalo (Table) Hill, and LRT photographers captured the moments of the celebration.
The Vilnius Ethnic Culture Centre invited Vilnius residents and visitors to climb Table Hill in Kalnai Park. It was here that the equinox celebration was held with circles of fire and burning sculptures created by Rytas Jonas Belevičius and Rūta Oona Čigriejūtė.

On this autumnal equinox, when the beginning of the astronomical autumn coincided with the Day of the Unity of the Balts, it was not only the flames but also the sounds of music that invited people to reflect on the circle of life and the year.

According to the organisers, a brief stop at the autumnal equinox is essential before the approaching time of darkness. This reflection allows us to reconsider the constant rush of everyday life and gives us the opportunity to look back into our spiritual world.
It is a reminder that a peaceful nature encourages people to follow its example, slow down, and anticipate the approaching All Souls’ Day and Christmas.
