At a ceremony hosted by the president, Lithuanian athletes were seen off to the Paris Olympic Games on Tuesday.

The delegation, which includes 50 athletes this year, also revealed who will be carrying the Lithuanian flag at the opening procession on July 26.

Justina Vanagaitė, a rider, and Rytis Jasiūnas, a windsurfer, will be Lithuania’s flagbearers for 2024. For both, this will be the first Olympic Games.

The opening ceremony of the Paris Games will be held by the river Seine. Unlike in previous games, the national delegations will not be walking into the main stadium but sailing in the river.

“I wish you every success, and we will certainly spend a lot of time in front of the TV,” President Gitanas Nausėda told the athletes at the seeing-off ceremony. “I will have the honour to be there for a few more days to watch the competitions live.”
