Broswarm, a Lithuanian defence and security startup developing advanced mine detection technology, has become the first Lithuanian company to win the NATO Innovation Challenge, the Economy and Innovation Ministry reported on Tuesday.
“The first place in the NATO Innovation Challenge is a very important proof that Lithuanian companies are capable of creating and developing globally competitive defence technologies,” the ministry’s press release quoted Minister Aušrinė Armonaitė as saying.
Broswarm is developing a next-generation sensor that is primarily used to detect mines: data from the sensor attached to the drone and other sensors are then processed by artificial intelligence to accurately detect objects in the area under investigation.
The Lithuanian company is reportedly hoping to test the technology in real-life conditions in Ukraine.
The startup has raised 100,000 US dollars in investment this year to develop the technology.
A total of 11 defence startups from Lithuania, Latvia, the United States, France, and Belgium took part in the final round of the NATO Innovation Challenge, which took place in Vilnius in June.
