Sixty-eight percent of Lithuanians believe they benefit from international trade, according to the latest Eurobarometer survey published on Thursday.

Even more, 71 percent, say they value international trade for giving consumers more choice, and 45 percent value it for more affordable products, the poll shows.

Seventy-five percent of respondents in Lithuania agree that the EU protects the trade interests of its member states more effectively than the member states themselves. Seventy percent believe that international trade rules are needed to maintain a level playing field.

Exactly half say that future EU trade policy should give priority to ensuring EU environmental and health standards, 48 percent say it should prioritise creating jobs in the EU, and 47 percent believe it’s important to ensure the supply of products and services while keeping prices low.

Thirty-nine percent of Lithuanians expect EU trade policy to help protect national security and 38 percent expect it to protect health.

The Eurobarometer survey was carried out between January 12 and February 4 and involved 1,008 respondents in Lithuania and more than 26,000 people across the EU.
