In May, Lithuania’s Migration Department revoked the residence permits of 1,483 foreigners, the Interior Ministry announced on Thursday.

According to the ministry, the majority of foreigners lost their residence permits due to failure to conclude or termination of an employment contract, and 12 persons due to threats to state security or public order.

The Migration Department refused to issue or change temporary residence permits for 484 persons, 31 of whom were refused due to threats to security. In addition, 1,216 foreigners were refused entry to Lithuania.

As a result of identified abuses of immigration procedures, 42 companies are currently not allowed to provide letters of mediation for the entry of foreigners.

As part of the continued implementation of the reinforced labour migration control measures, the authorities checked 1,471 foreign nationals in May, the Interior Ministry said.

The State Border Guard Service carried out 61 inspections in May, 12 of which were carried out jointly with the police, the Migration Department, the State Labour Inspectorate, and the State Tax Inspectorate.

During the inspections, 17 persons were found in breach of the Law on the Legal Status of Foreigners.

Currently, 219,506 foreigners have valid residence permits in Lithuania, including 115,790 temporary residence permits issued on the basis of employment.
