A Vilnius resident on Sunday captured a rare spectacle – a double lightning striking the city’s TV Tower.
After a day of warm weather, heavy rain with thunder and lightning hit Vilnius on Sunday evening.
“Normally, single lightning strikes the TV Tower, but it is rare to see such double strikes,” a meteorologist Gytis Valaika told LRT RADIO.
“A double lightning strike has nothing to do with climate change, it just shows that the TV tower acts as a lightning rod for the city of Vilnius,” he added.
Although a double electrical discharge is rare, it is estimated that lightning is about 11 times more likely to strike a TV tower than nearby objects.
