Over 91,000 people, or 3.8 percent of all eligible voters, cast their ballots during the first two days of early voting in Lithuania’s presidential election and referendum on dual citizenship, figures from the Central Electoral Commission (VRK) showed on Wednesday evening.

Voter turnout was more than twice as high as in the presidential election five years ago, when 44,000 voters, or 1.85 percent, cast their ballots during the first two days.

VRK Chairwoman Lina Petronienė said voters were still queuing up at some polling stations after 20:00, adding that those who came before the closing time were allowed to vote.

On Wednesday through Friday, voting is also organised in hospitals, social care homes, military units and prisons.
