Lithuania to buy 3,000 drones for Ukraine, launches soldiers’ rehabilitation initiative

Lithuania is set to purchase around 3,000 drones for Ukraine and is launching a special rehabilitation program for the country’s injured soldiers, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė announced on Friday.

“The defence minister informed me yesterday that Lithuania will soon purchase about 3,000 additional Lithuanian-made FPV drones for Ukraine, worth 2 million euros. We expect the drones to reach the frontline by the end of this year,” Šimonytė said at a joint news conference with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in Vilnius.

Lithuania is also launching a special program for the rehabilitation of injured Ukrainian soldiers, the prime minister said.

“Through this program, we will contribute to the development of infrastructure and services in three rehabilitation centres in the regions of Lviv, Dnipro, and Zhytomyr,” she explained.

Lithuania plans to allocate up to 15 million euros to the program and to invite other international donors to contribute to it.

“We hope that this program and the projects that are being developed will receive proper attention and support,” Šimonytė said.

Lithuania has provided over 1 billion euros in aid for Ukraine since Russia’s large-scale invasion and recently contributed 35 million euros to the Czech ammunition initiative, the prime minister noted.
