Over 41,000 Ukrainian war refugees remain in Lithuania

More than 41,000 war refugees from Ukraine are currently living in Lithuania, and their number has remained almost unchanged over the past 12 months, the Migration Department said on Tuesday.

As of March 4, some 41,422 Ukrainian war refugees had temporary residence permits issued on the basis of temporary protection in Lithuania.

“However, this number will slightly increase shortly as another 1,200 applications submitted in the last weeks of February are currently being processed,” the Migration Department said.

In March 2023, when the department last completed the annual replacement of such documents, a total of 41,933 Ukrainian war refugees had valid temporary residence permits.

“It can be concluded that the number of Ukrainian war refugees in our country has stabilized,” it said.

Last year, more than 12,000 Ukrainian war refugees arrived in Lithuania and received their first temporary residence permits.

According to the Migration Department, the virtually unchanged number of valid temporary residence permits shows that almost the same number of Ukrainian war refugees arrived and left Lithuania in a year.
