Kaunas Airport has become the first Baltic airport to scrap the requirement for passengers to remove electronic devices and liquids from their hand luggage for security checks, its operator said on Tuesday.
Three computed tomography (CT) scanners have been installed at the airport, making the screening process quicker and more convenient for passengers, Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports, LTOU) said in a press release.
The airport started testing the new technology last November and put the system into full use in February.
CT scanners cannot be installed in Vilnius Airport’s old terminals due to existing infrastructure constraints, the operator noted.
However, the new technologies will be introduced in the new departure terminal of the main Lithuanian airport, which is expected to open in the first quarter of 2025.
