The stained glass work Three Muses by Kazys Morkūnas, discovered in a strip club in Vilnius, will be given legal protection by the state.

This was reported by 15min.lt, quoting Robertas Motuzas, deputy director of the Cultural Heritage Department (KPD).

“After a detailed examination of the stained glass, our specialists will specify the valuable elements of the work and it will be granted additional protection and the manager will be informed what additional protection measures will have to be taken,” said Motuzas.

Heritage specialists have not yet inspected the stained glass piece in person, he said. According to Motuzas, based on public information and confirmation from art historians, the Department has determined that Three Muses is an object of high value and will be protected as a valuable element of the building.

The nineteenth-century building that houses the strip club is listed in the Register of Cultural Heritage, too.

On Tuesday, the Vilnius Academy of Arts announced that one of its lecturers and an alumna discovered Three Muses, which was considered a lost masterpiece of stained glass, in a strip club in Vilnius.

The discovery was made by Žydrūnas Mirinavičius and Patricija Vytytė.

Three Muses was created in 1974 in the medieval basement of the then Laumė restaurant. In the absence of windows, artificial lighting was installed to illuminate the stained glass. Its fate was unknown after the restaurant closed.
