Ukraine willing to move part of drone production to Lithuania – FM

Ukraine is willing to move part of its drone production to Lithuania, Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis has said.

“We could also talk about joint [drone] production. It seems that the Ukrainians are interested in potentially moving part of the production to Lithuania. This would help us, and perhaps partly them, if we could supply them with the drones they need,” Landsbergis told reporters in Kyiv on Thursday.

The methods of warfare are changing, he noted, and lessons should be learnt from the Ukrainians who have been fighting the Russian invasion for almost two years.

“We should learn from the Ukrainians now. All the more so, they are ready to open their war books to their friends. This is an extraordinary opportunity. The highest price has been paid for the lessons we can learn,” Landsbergis said.

Unmanned aerial vehicles have been used actively by both sides in the war in Ukraine in a variety of tasks, ranging from reconnaissance to destroying enemy targets.

Some war observers say they are a cheaper and more difficult-to-counter alternative to conventional weapons. Others argue that heavy weapons will continue to better achieve operational and strategic objectives in conflicts, while drones can be used for support.
