Ekspress Grupp, an Estonian media group that owns the Delfi news websites in the Baltics, has appealed against the Lithuanian Competition Council’s decision on an infringement related to the group’s acquisition of the company that operates the lrytas.lt news website.
“Yesterday, we received Ekspress Grupp’s complaint, in which the applicant asks for the annulment of Lithuanian Competition Council’s decision of December 21, 2023,” Sigita Gamulėnienė, spokesperson for the Regional Administrative Court, told BNS on Tuesday.
If the court decides that the group violated the Law on Competition, Ekspress Grupp is asking the court to annul or reduce the fine and to set a deadline of at least six months to comply with the Competition Council’s order.
In December, the Competition Council found that Ekspress Grupp had violated a provision of the law requiring it to notify about a proposed transaction and receive permission if the revenues of the businesses involved exceed the legal thresholds. Ekspress Grupp was fined slightly more than 140,000 euros.
