For the first time, Vilnius has been named one of the top 100 cities in the world by Euromonitor International.
Making its debut in the list of the best cities in the world, the Lithuanian capital ranked 92nd, Tourism and Business Development Agency Go Vilnius writes in a press release.
Every year, market research company Euromonitor International compiles a list of the best cities for tourism. The index is measured on 55 different indicators that track aspects such as foreign and domestic tourist arrivals, infrastructure development, security, sustainability etc.
This year, Vilnius made it to the TOP 100 list due to its successful organisation of the NATO summit and its brave and creative marketing campaigns, according to Vitalij Vladykin, a senior research manager at Euromonitor International.
“2023 was a successful year for Vilnius not only because the Lithuanian capital celebrated its 700th anniversary and hosted the NATO Summit but also because of its success in tourism development,” he said. “Despite all the geopolitical and economic challenges, Vilnius has managed to make a significant contribution to the strong post-pandemic recovery of the tourism sector.”
In total, 63 cities from Europe made the TOP 100 list. Along with Vilnius, this year for the first time it also includes the US capital Washington DC, the Chilean capital Santiago, and the Canadian city of Montreal.
