After almost a year of reconstruction, Vilnius Railway Station opened to visitors on Friday.

The renovation has transformed the space at the station to better meet passengers’ needs, according to Lithuanian Railways (LTG).

“We see that around the world, train and other transport stations are no longer just a place where people pop in for a few minutes to wait for their journey. For modern travellers, it’s important to have places to eat, work, relax, and have comfortable spaces to use their smart devices,” said Viktorija Makovskienė, head of Asset Management Services at LTG.

“In the more than three decades since the station’s last renovation, travel habits have changed dramatically. From now on, the station will be much more spacious, cosy, and comfortable,” she added.

The renovated Vilnius Railway Station features three areas for the convenience of visitors: a catering area, the main waiting hall with spaces for relaxation, and a commercial area.

The renovation work at Vilnius Railway Station was carried out by DP Group. The contract for the works, worth 1.8 million euros, was signed last December.

The last major renovation of the interior of the Vilnius Railway Station building was carried out in 1998.
