Canada’s new Defence Attaché to Lithuania Colonel Robert Foster was accredited at the Defence Ministry on Wednesday.
“As Canada decided to open an embassy in our country this year, we are beginning a new phase in the bilateral relations between Lithuania and Canada. We hope that our military cooperation will also be elevated to a new level,” Defence Minister Arvydas Anušauskas said in a statement.
Canada leads NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battlegroup in Latvia. The country’s air force participated in the NATO Air Policing Mission in Šiauliai in 2014 and has also deployed officers to the Vilnius-based NATO Force Integration Unit.
Canada’s new defence attaché to Lithuania has served within various units of the Canadian Armed Forces since 1986 and has been Canada’s defence attaché in Ukraine for the past four years.
