Lithuania strips Russian citizen of residence permit over ‘disloyal views’

BNS 2023.07.13 17:34

Lithuania’s Migration Department has revoked the residence permit issued to Russian citizen Vladimir Vodo after intelligence said he was posing a threat to national security.

“The State Security Department submitted an assessment to the Migration Department, stating that, according to the available information and taking into account the current geopolitical situation, Russian citizen Vladimir Vodo’s residence in Lithuania poses a threat to the state's security,” the State Security Department (VSD), Lithuania’s intelligence agency, told BNS.

Vodo, who claims to be a journalist, has “disloyal views” towards Lithuania, according to the VSD, disseminates “propaganda” on social media in line with Russia’s information policy, and has had contacts with Russian and Belarusian intelligence services.

Lithuania’s Migration Department has revoked 125 residence permits since the start of this year, including 97 issued to Russian citizens.

Most of them had their residence permits revoked because the VSD said they were posing threats to national security, according to information available to BNS.
