‘Everything was red’: dozens of cyber attacks recorded during NATO summit in Vilnius

Dozens of various information and cyber attacks were recorded during the NATO summit in Vilnius, a presidential adviser says.

“We were hit by dozens, if not hundreds, of attacks throughout the summit and just before the summit, [...] almost all of them were dealt with,” Kęstutis Budrys, the president’s adviser on national security issues, told reporters at the parliament on Thursday.

Budrys attended a closed-door meeting of the Committees on National Security and Defence and on Foreign Affairs, held to discuss the results of the NATO summit.

“Everything was red when the summit was taking place, and we dealt with it. [...] It was red in terms of intensity and we had DDoS attacks and various phishing operations,” he said, adding that “the government’s information resources were protected” during the attacks.

As the Vilnius summit was drawing to a close, reports emerged on Telegram of possible leaks related to the organisation of the summit. Police have opened a pre-trial investigation into the incident.

The published information may also be false, Budrys said, adding that the authorities are carrying out an assessment of the incident.
