Lithuania spent 1.4% GDP on Ukraine support – ministry

Lithuania’s total support to Ukraine since it was invaded by Russia has reached a billion euros, the Ministry of Economy and Innovation said on Thursday.

“Lithuania’s total military, humanitarian and financial support to Ukraine is estimated to have reached 1 billion euros, which is equal to 1.42 percent of GDP for 2022,” the ministry said in a press release.

Economy Minister Aušrinė Armonaitė discussed support for Ukraine at a conference in London on rebuilding the war-ravaged country.

“Being part of this conference gives me the opportunity not only to make a political statement, but also to meet with business representatives to discuss Ukraine’s very specific needs and further reconstruction efforts,” Armonaitė said at the Ukraine Recovery Conference.

“This is very important because the reconstruction of Ukraine would be almost impossible without the involvement of private businesses and organisations,” the minister said.

“Efforts to rebuild a modern, resilient and innovative Ukraine also require a focus on innovation and digitalisation where Ukraine already has a strong foundation and ensures the proper functioning of technology even in wartime,” she added.

Armonaitė also took part in a session on Ukraine’s digital transformation, where participants were briefed on the country’s digitisation achievements, vision for the future and the resilience of the sector.

Lithuania is currently carrying out a number of projects to rebuild Ukraine’s infrastructure.
