Lithuanian citizens will be able to travel more easily to the Republic of South Africa after the country decided to include Lithuania in its e-visa scheme, Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis has said.
“Achieved through the efforts of Lithuanian diplomats, the Republic of South Africa’s decision continues to consistently increase the attractiveness of the Lithuanian passport that already ranks among the top ten ‘most powerful’ passports in the world,” Landsbergis said in a statement on Thursday.
“The e-visa scheme will take tourism, business, and academic exchanges, as well as human relations between the two countries, to a new level,” he added.
Earlier in the day, the Republic of South Africa said it had included Lithuania, along with 19 other countries, in its e-visa scheme, meaning that from now on, Lithuanian citizens who want to visit the country for tourism or business purposes will be able to fill an online application for a short-stay visa and will receive their visa by e-mail.
Lithuanian citizens will no longer have to physically send their documents to the African country’s embassy in Stockholm as they have been required to do so until now.
