Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda is leaving for a working visit to Berlin on Wednesday.
The president will give a speech at an event hosted by the Koerber Foundation on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Nausėda is scheduled to meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Nausėda and Scholz are expected to discuss preparations for the Vilnius NATO summit in mid-July, bilateral security and defence cooperation and economic relations, as well as Russia’s war in Ukraine and the aggressor’s accountability for war crimes and the crime of aggression.
Last year, the two leaders agreed on the deployment of a German brigade to Lithuania.
Vilnius is seeking the permanent presence of a full German brigade in the country, but Berlin has so far only deployed the brigade’s forward command element and plans to send combat and other units for exercises.
As discussions on the size of the brigade continue, Germany insists that this requires a NATO-level decision. The alliance has not yet given its opinion on the issue.
The program of Nausėda’s visit to Berlin also includes meetings with German business representatives.
