Lithuania has issued 41,93 temporary residence permits on the basis of temporary protection to Ukrainian nationals, the country's Migration Department said on Monday.
At least several thousand more applications are expected to be received at a later stage, the Migration Department told BNS.
"The number recorded on March 6 will change the very next day because dozens of new persons fleeing the war are arriving in Lithuania every day. Moreover, some foreigners already living in Lithuania are leaving for other countries or returning to Ukraine," Evelina Gudzinskaitė, director of the Migration Department, said in a statement.
Lithuania's migration information system MIGRIS has registered over 75,000 Ukrainian refugees since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
"Some of them came to Lithuania only for a short period of time and did not want to apply for temporary protection, and some of them received temporary protection and later applied for residence permits on other grounds, while others simply left Lithuania,” Gudzinskaitė said.
“Therefore, the total number of registered war refugees does not reflect the actual number of such persons in Lithuania,” she added.
