Registered unemployment rose by 0.3 percentage point to 9.2 percent in Lithuania in January, month-on-month, but was 1 point lower than a year earlier, the country’s Employment Service said.
There were 160,900 registered unemployed people in Lithuania on February 1, down by 9.3 percent from the same time last year. In January compared to December, 18.4 percent (4,300) more job seekers turned to the Employment Service and the total number stood at 27,500.
“After a sluggish December, we are seeing signs of activity in the labour market, with employers more actively making job offers in January, and a growing number of people returning to the labour market,” Jurgita Zemblytė, head of the Monitoring and Analysis Division at the Employment Service, said.
Employers registered 15,300 job vacancies in January, 25 percent more than in December.
