Lithuanian politicians, journalist receive state awards from Ukraine’s President Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has conferred state awards on more than 100 people, including two Lithuanian ministers.

Lithuanian MEP Petras Auštrevičius, journalist and influencer Andrius Tapinas, as well as Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis and Culture Minister Simonas Kairys are among the receivers of the award.

Under the decree signed by Zelensky on August 22, ministers Landsbergis and Kairys were awarded the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the Third and Fifth Degree, respectively. Meanwhile Auštrevičius and Tapinas, who was behind the crowd-funding campaign to gift a Bayraktar drown to Ukraine, were awarded the Order of Merit of the Second and Third Degree, respectively.

The awards were given to more than 100 politicians, military officers, public figures, actors, journalists, volunteers and other professionals from various countries who have contributed in one way or another to the support to Ukraine.

The recipients also include European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, and a number of US officials: Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, President Joe Biden’s National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley.
