Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has ordered the removal of Lithuanian theatre director Rimas Tuminas, former art director of the Moscow Vakhtangov Theatre, from the list of persons awarded the government’s culture prize.
Mishustin signed the order on Monday but did not provide any reasons for such a decision.
Tuminas received the award in December 2021 for his “significant contribution to the promotion of Russian culture”. The award included 3 million roubles (then almost 36,000 euros).
On May 6, the Moscow Vakhtangov Theatre announced that the Lithuanian director had suspended his work at the theatre after working as its art director since 2007.
