Lithuanian Economy and Innovation Minister Aušrinė Armonaitė has invited Google to move its representative office from Moscow to Vilnius.

“Lithuania is a stable, energetically independent, highly cyber-secure country that is also a member of NATO. These factors allow our country to create not only a favourable but also safe environment for the establishment of multinational companies and the development of investments,” the ministry’s press release quoted Armonaitė, who on Friday met with Google Vice-President Markham C. Erickson in Vilnius.

“Taking this and the current geopolitical situation into account, we have invited Google to choose Lithuania and move to Vilnius,” she added.

She also believes that the tech giant could help Lithuania fight Russian and Belarusian propaganda and disinformation online.

Google representatives have said that the company has been taking special measures to stop the spread of disinformation online and guard against cybersecurity threats in a bid to help people in Ukraine.

Google currently has an office in Vilnius responsible for the company’s activities in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
