Lithuania scraps self-quarantine after exposure to Covid-19

Lithuania's Health Ministry has decided to end the self-isolation requirement for people who have been in contact with a Covid-19 case. As of Wednesday, only those who have themselves tested positive for the disease will be required to self-quarantined.

Until now, self-isolation was mandatory for people if someone in their household was diagnosed with Covid-19.

According to the ministry, the rule is hard to enforce, because people were reluctant to disclose members of their household to public health authorities.

“The decision to give up mandatory self-isolation also follows from the improving epidemiological situation. We have been observing a decline in Covid-19 infections, a slow-down in the spread of the pandemic,” the ministry said in a statement.

However, people who have been exposed to the infection are still recommended to observe their health, test themselves, wear facemasks and switch to teleworking, if possible.
