Some of the staff of the Lithuanian embassy in Ukraine have been relocated to the western city of Lviv, but essential functions continue to be carried out in Kyiv, presidential adviser Asta Skaisgirytė said on Thursday.

“Lithuania has also moved some of the embassy staff to Lviv, but the necessary functions that the embassy has to perform are still being carried out in Kyiv,” President Gitanas Nausėda's chief foreign policy adviser told LRT RADIO.

“As long as the situation allows for our diplomats to work in Kiev, they work in Kiev,” she said. “If the circumstances escalate to the point where it is no longer possible or safe to work in Kyiv, everyone will be moved to Lviv.”

Earlier in February, the US relocated its embassy from Kyiv to the western city of Lviv.

Russia has amassed more than 100,000 troops and military equipment around Ukraine in what the West fears could be preparations for an invasion.

The United States on Wednesday dismissed reports that Russia was withdrawing troops from Ukraine's border.
