Vilnius seeks to host EU’s anti-money laundering authority

Giedrius Gaidamavičius, BNS2022.01.12 16:52

Lithuania is willing to host the European Union's Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA), Finance Minister Gintarė Skaistė said on Wednesday after meeting with Eurogroup President and Irish Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe in Vilnius.

“Lithuania has expressed its ambition to host the authority in Vilnius,” Skaistė told reporters. “We have a sizeable network of competences, we have many fintech companies, we have competent people ready to work for such an authority.”

“Therefore, we are among a handful of countries in this Nordic and Visegrad region which have expressed a wish to host such an authority," she said.

“It's a very early process,” Donohoe said at the same news conference, commenting on the proposal. “We will give together careful and positive consideration to the proposal that was put forward by the minister this morning.”
