Coronavirus: Lithuania reports 1,197 new cases, 6 deaths

Lithuania has registered 1,197 new coronavirus infections and six deaths from Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, the country's statistics office said on Friday morning.

Half of the fatalities were either not vaccinated or only partially vaccinated.

In the past 24 hours, vaccine shots have been administered to a total of 10,569 people, including 4,038 vaccinated with the first jab.

The total number of Covid-19 patients in hospitals has risen by several dozen to 910, including 89 in intensive care units.

Hospitalisations and deaths

Some 100 people have been hospitalised with Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, up from around 97 a day before. Fifty-five patients are on lung ventilators, and 768 need oxygen.

During the peak of the pandemic in January, the number of Covid-19 patients in Lithuanian hospitals reached 2,600, forcing hospitals to suspend some other medical services.

A total of 4,763 people have died of Covid-19 in Lithuania so far, including 72 fully vaccinated people.


So far, 1,716,628 people have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine in Lithuania, and 1,590,116 people are fully vaccinated.

Overall, 61.4 percent the country's population have had at least one vaccine dose, or 70 percent of people over the age of 12.

Lithuania has so far received over 4.55 million vaccine doses and has administered 3.12 million.

Epidemiological situation

Lithuania's 14-day coronavirus infection rate has risen to 447.5 cases per 100,000 people and the 7-day share of positive tests stands at 5.8 percent, according to the latest statistics.

Over 13,000 molecular (PCR) tests for Covid-19 and some 10,000 antigen tests have been performed over the past 24 hours.

Overall, 313,692 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Lithuania since the start of the pandemic, including 11,050 that remain active cases.
