Coronavirus: Lithuania hits another high with 925 new cases

Lithuania has registered 925 new coronavirus infections and nine deaths from Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, the country's statistics office said on Thursday morning.

Statistics Lithuania also updated the previous day's count to 932 cases, instead of 854 reported on Wednesday morning, marking the highest daily number of new infections since mid-May.

Four of the latest fatalities were in their 70s and another four in their 80s, and the remaining one was in their 60s. One of the deceased, a person in their 80s, had been fully vaccinated.

Lithuania's 14-day coronavirus infection rate has risen to 339.6 cases per 100,000 people, with the share of positive tests for the past 7 days up to 6.3 percent, according to the latest statistics.

Overall, 305,605 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Lithuania since the start of the pandemic, including 8,473 active cases.

The country's hospitals are currently treating 736 coronavirus patients, 78 of them need intensive care.

A total of 4,641 people have died from Covid-19 in Lithuania so far, including 47 who were fully vaccinated.

On Wednesday, 3,767 people in the country were vaccinated with the first vaccine dose, 6,344 received their second jab.

So far, 60.4 percent of the population have been vaccinated at least once, or 68.9 percent of people over 12.
