Coronavirus: Lithuania reports hike of 807 new cases

Lithuania has registered 807 new coronavirus infections and eight deaths from Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, the country's statistics office said on Thursday morning.

Three fatalities were in their 80s, two in their 60s, and one in their 70s, 50s and 40s each. Three of the deceased, two in their 60s and one in their 80s, had been fully vaccinated.

This is the highest daily rise in infections since late May.

Lithuania's 14-day coronavirus infection rate has risen to 293.1 cases per 100,000 people, with the daily share of positive tests up to 5.2 percent, according to the latest statistics.

Overall, 300,339 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Lithuania since the start of the pandemic. The number of active cases currently stands at 7,334.

There are currently 589 Covid-19 patients in the country's hospitals. Fifty-nine of them are in intensive care.

A total of 4,579 people have died from Covid-19 in Lithuania so far, including 38 who had been fully vaccinated.
