Lithuanian Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys says the first batch of coronavirus vaccines, 9,750 doses, will reach Lithuania in early January.
“I can say today that the first vaccines will come to Lithuania within three to four days after December 29, if nothing else changes. There will be 9,750 doses,” the minister said on LRT TV on Monday evening.
“I don’t know yet when the next batch will come,” Dulkys added.
December 29 is when the European Union's drug agency is expected to approve the first coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech.
It will take two doses to vaccinate an individual. The first groups to be vaccinated will be medical workers and care and nursing home staff, as well as at-risk people, according to Dulkys.
“We have over 40,000 members in the medical community alone,” the minister noted.
He said the vaccination process in Lithuania “is going to take a considerable period of time”.
