Lithuania reported 735 new coronavirus cases on Friday and seven new deaths, the highest daily death toll so far.
Most of the new cases were in Kaunas County (181), followed by Klaipėda County (129) and Vilnius County (128).
Infections were reported in a number of schools and kindergartens, as well as healthcare institutions. In Vilnius, gyms and sports venues were the sites of the spread of Covid-19.
The National Public Health Centre (NVSC) said on Friday noon it was still tracing some of the new infections. In 138 cases, the source of infection could not be accounted for.
Seven people died of Covid-19 over Thursday. According to information provided by the NVSC, one was in their 60s, while the others were between 70 and 90 years old. All had chronic health conditions, according to the report.
Over 12,000 people were tested for the coronavirus in Lithuania over Thursday.
There are now 8,918 active cases of Covid-19 in the country. In all, 13,823 people have been diagnosed with the virus since the start of the pandemic, 4,691 have already recovered.
At the moment, 415 are being treated in hospitals, 35 of them in intensive care, the Health Ministry said on Friday.
Nearly 30,000 people are in isolation.
So far, 157 people have died of the coronavirus in the country.
