Lithuanian Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga said the country's authorities plan to review coronavirus protection guidelines, which allow people not to wear masks in cafes, bars, and restaurants when eating or drinking.
He recalled examples in other countries where people wear masks at all times, except for when eating and drinking. In Lithuania, the existing rules are "being abused”, he said.
Veryga also said catering establishments are not adhering to the requirements to separate tables at an appropriate distance.
His comments came after the city council in Kaunas, Lithuania’s second largest city, proposed additional coronavirus protection measures in catering establishments and during events.
Adform Kiemelis, a venue in Kaunas' Old Town, recently became one of Lithuania's largest clusters of coronavirus infections after dozens of visitors and employees fell ill with Covid-19.
