The board of the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) decided on Friday to end the 2019/2020 season and crown Žalgiris Kaunas, the current regular season leader, as the champion.
The measure is in line with the requirements to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
“We as the league expect full understanding and support from the fans, sports community and our partners,” the board said in a statement.
“This decision will have enormous long-term financial impact on both the clubs and the league. However, health and life are fundamental values and the LKL have made the safest decision for the players, personnel and society,” it added.
Rytas Vilnius was named the runner-up, and Lietkabelis Panevėžys was named the third-place winner.
