Latvian carrier airBaltic has launched seasonal flights between Riga and Kaunas, expanding its presence in Lithuania during the summer travel period, the company said Monday.
The route will operate from late March until early November and is part of the airline’s broader network development in the Lithuanian market.
The first flight from Riga to Kaunas took place Sunday, with the return flight on Monday. Flights from Riga will operate daily except Tuesdays and Saturdays, departing at 23:45, while return flights from Kaunas will run daily except Wednesdays and Saturdays at 05:35. The flight time is approximately 50 minutes.
Simonas Bartkus, head of Lithuanian Airports, said the airline’s return to Kaunas marks the end of a 12-year hiatus.
“Tonight, after a 12-year break, we welcomed airBaltic back at Kaunas Airport,” he wrote on Facebook. “Kaunas has returned to the map of connecting flights.”

He noted that passengers can now reach Kaunas via Riga with short connections from major European cities, including Amsterdam, Helsinki, Brussels, Berlin and Hamburg.
“This creates new opportunities for Kaunas business and tourism, while also testing demand for this connecting route,” Bartkus said.
Mantas Vrubliauskas, vice president for the management of airBaltic network, said passengers travelling from Kaunas via Riga will gain access to more than 80 destinations across Europe and beyond.
“The new connection between Kaunas and Riga is an important step in strengthening regional mobility in the Baltic states,” he said in a statement.
The route is primarily aimed at the Lithuanian market, offering expanded travel options through Riga as a hub.
The Latvian airline now operates at all three Lithuanian airports: Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga.
During the summer season, the airline offers more than 110 routes across its network.
