LTG Link on Sunday launched its first express train service connecting Vilnius and Kaunas, aiming to strengthen intercity rail links and reduce car traffic on the country’s main transport corridors.
The new non-stop service between Lithuania’s two largest cities eliminates intermediate stops, cutting travel time to 59 minutes. Existing trains on the Vilnius–Kaunas route typically stop at stations including Lentvaris, Vievis, Kaišiadorys and Palemonas, with journeys ranging from three to 15 stops and averaging about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
The Vilnius–Kaunas corridor is among the busiest rail routes in the country, serving around 5,000 passengers on weekdays and up to 6,000 on weekends.
Despite possible disruptions caused by temporary infrastructure works, LTG Link said the new express trains will remain the fastest rail option between the two cities.
