The British Embassy in Vilnius is changing its operating model and will close its Finance Centre, resulting in the dismissal of 11 employees, Lithuania’s Employment Service said.
According to the agency, the layoffs are due to the elimination of the Finance Centre following organisational changes in the finance directorate and the financial management partners team.
Most of those affected are regional finance managers, with nine positions to be cut. Negotiations are planned over some of the redundancies. The employees are expected to be laid off in March.
The UK Embassy told 15min.lt that the Foreign Office is currently reviewing how administrative activities are carried out across its overseas missions. As part of that process, a decision was made to change the operating model, which will reduce staffing levels at regional Finance Centres.
The embassy said the changes are not limited to Lithuania but are part of a global restructuring of the Foreign Office’s regional Finance Centres.
“The UK and Lithuania are and will remain close allies and excellent strategic bilateral partners,” the embassy said in a comment.
According to data from Lithuania’s social security agency, Sodra, the British Embassy in Vilnius currently employs 52 people.
